Benoît Marchal

I'm Benoît Marchal, a writer and consultant based in Namur (Belgium). I work mostly on XML, Java and e-commerce.

So far, I've published three books and more than a hundred articles. I'm a columnist for developer.com and developerWorks. The later led to ananas.org, a set of XML open source projects.

As a consultant, I specialize in e-commerce/web services projects as well as XML projects. I enjoy travelling and regularly work with customers in France and in the UK.

Please send me an email if you are interested by my activities. If you're curious, my resume is also online.

This site is written in French and English but most pages are available in one language only. Don't be surprised if you hit a French page, the English flag on the top right will take you back to English pages.

Flying cow

Last year, I added a set of digital cameras (a Nikon Coolpix 885 and a Coolpix 4500) to my writer toolbox. The goal was to produce digital images more easily to illustrate articles, books and web sites.

I had experience with film-based photos but I was completely new to digital images. As always with a new technology, most of the things I knew were still valid, while others I had to re-learn (I'm still in the process of re-learnign). There's a lot of new material to learn as well.

As I'm learning, I thought it would be interesting to share some of my pictures with you. You'll find the album with my first images and more recent galleries from various trips.

Overall I find digital photography is a lot more fun than traditional photography (that was already a lot of fun). Not only can I can share my pictures with you with ease but there's Photoshop Elements. It is sometimes known as the digital darkroom but it is much more than a darkroom ever was! Plus it does not smell funny.
